"Celebrating Jane Austen" is an event for both avid Austen admirers and readers who would like to get better acquainted with her. My illustrated talk traces Austen’s path to publication in a period when women were discouraged from writing professionally and novels were considered lowbrow entertainment; I'll also discuss the enduring popularity of her works and the challenges of trying to follow in her footsteps as I recreate Austen’s Regency England in my own novels. Come enjoy refreshments in the company of fellow Janeites, and an opportunity to check out the newly reopened Main Library following its recent renovation. More information is available at www.jasnadayton.org and the library website.

The Hero's Journey is the foundation of myths and stories across cultures, centuries, and genres. Not only is The Hero's Journey useful to novelists of many different genres, but also writers of nonfiction, memoir and screenwriting. Learn how to adapt this archetypal pattern to your own writing to create powerful narratives and characters that resonate with readers. This program is part of Dayton Metro Library’s Fall Writing Series. More information is available here.
